Ladies and gentleman, let me introduce you to Hardcore Henry a movie that was filmed 100% from the first-person perspective. This film looks like a first-person shooter video game come to life. It even has that classic video game storyline that dates back to Super Mario Bros. – bad guy captures your girl, good guy has to rescue girl. What’s exciting is that Hardcore Henry is a full-length movie, not a short YouTube video.
The trailer for Hardcore Henry felt really familiar due to how it was filmed. After doing some googling I discovered that it reminded me of the Biting Elbows’ music video Bad Mother******. The frontman of the Russian indie band Biting Elbows is Ilya Naishuller and he’s the one that directed Bad Mother****** which has been viewed on YouTube an estimated 31,600,000 times and counting. I guess he was able to use the success of the video and some other projects he’s done to get his film Hardcore Henry green lit, which he also directed.
I didn’t recognize any of the actors at first glance, but it turns out oscar-nomeinee Sharlto Copley (the main guy of District 9 who’s performance almost made me puke when his nails were falling off) is in it and Haley Bennett, Jennifer Lawrence’s doppelgänger.
This fun, fast paced, over-the-top action flick is exactly what I’ve been looking for – it’s a Quentin Tarantino film on steroids. Consume. Review. Repeat. gives the Hardcore Henry trailer a 10 out 10 rotating foots. Check out the trailer below!
